  • Steve cares about the communities and residents of the 42nd District. He believes in public service and in giving back to the community where he lives.

  • He has been a leader in planning for Towson's future, assisting neighborhoods, addressing the need for open space, providing needed school improvements, services to seniors, transportation and the involvement of citizens in government decisions.

  • Steve will work with you to improve the quality of the schools; the care and services provided to the elderly and children; improve the availability of health care; make improvements needed to maintain decent housing and to retain homeowners and young families; make the business districts more vital and expand opportunities for open space preservation and the needs of youth.

Steve's background

  • Elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in November 2006. Currently serves on the Environmental Matters Committee.
  • Married for 31 years to Betsy; long time resident of Stoneleigh; has lived in the district for over 25 years.
  • Currently employed as the Deputy Director of Planning and Zoning in Howard County.
  • Former director of various Smart Growth programs for neighborhoods and businesses at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
  • Managed Neighborhood Revitalization for Baltimore County, 1995-1999; directly involved with commercial revitalization, helping communities develop strategies to tackle their problems, developing the capital budget and implementing community based initiatives.
  • Steve has practiced law, taught school in the Baltimore City School System and has served on the boards of various, local non-profit organizations.

Civic and Community Activities

Steve has been deeply involved with communities throughout the county and state. He has worked with dozens of civic, community and political organizations. He has helped bring transportation services to seniors; businesses to renovate and expand, downtowns to thrive, people to buy homes near their work, communities to improve open space, neighborhoods to fight crime. These include:
